Forth Bridges Festival – Food and Drink Market

Hello Dear Reader,

This week was the 50th anniversary of the opening of the Forth Road Bridge. To mark this momentous occasion there is a wonderful festival running for a fortnight with all sorts of events in the towns on each side of the bridge and even on the bridge itself!

Today was the first day of this weekend’s food and drink market in the picturesque town of South Queensferry. A walk through this little town is a delight at any time with its cobbled streets, ancient buildings and artisan shops.

Not to mention the spectacular view of both bridges…

Now add in a food and drink market and it is heaven!

Scoff are an innovative company specialising in filled tattie scones. Scoff came second in the Scottish heats of the UK Street Food awards last week. Unfortunately by the time I made it to their stand, all their food had already been scoffed!

I contented myself with a Moroccan-spiced lamb burger from Edin-burgers, the speciality burger company, and it was delicious.

Here is a small election of some of the other stalls..

Those macarons went quickly, the ladies constantly re-filling their stand all afternoon!

Sadly the only company I saw from my side of the bridge from Fife was the delectable Spencerfield Spirit Company, with their popular gins and their fantastically named whisky range.

There is plenty for the kids too, with a craft area which was packed with happy kids getting creative when I walked past.

There’s also a falconry area where they can get up close and personal with a range of birds. I was particularly taken with this cute little owl.

Forth Bridges Festival is running 4th to 13th September 2014. The food and drink market is on again tomorrow (Sunday 7th September) and I can’t wait for the spectacular fireworks finale next Saturday (13th September)!

  1. What a fantastic event! I can almost smell everything you’ve photographed! I would love to attend something like this – I’ve never been to anything on this grand scale before. I have a fondness for bridges too – I had to take a photo of the Forth as we crossed it on our trip south this summer! 🙂

    • Thanks Elizabeth. You’ll have to come down to stay for some of the foodie events next year! I love the bridges too and am jumping with excitement about the fireworks over the bridges tonight! 🙂

  2. How fantastic! I love food festivals because there’s always something new to taste. Thanks for sharing:)

    • There has been a veritable explosion of food festivals in Scotland recently. I’m off to another one today! Very exciting times for a food-lover! 😉

    • Yes, it was an unusual mix Kat but really fun! 🙂

    • Glad to be of assistance! There’s lots of great events happening and South Queensferry is on the Edinburgh bus route, so really cheap & easy to get to from the city!

  3. Looks amazing Vohn. Wish I was there.

    • Oh Lorna – I wish you were here too – miss you! Come for a holiday! x

  4. Those bridges are so evocative for me. Especially the rail bridge. Lovely to see them from the South Queensferry angle. Looks like a good market, I’m off to my local one tomorrow.

    • Thanks Janice. Yes, it’s funny – right on my doorstep but I’d never photographed the bridges from the other side before! I’m loving all the food markets popping up around Scotland! 🙂
